The exhaust gases released from a furnace is supposed to rise through the flue and get vented out of the house. This happens as the negative pressure of the heat in the flue is greater than it is in the combustion zone of the furnace. When the pressure is in the combustion zone is higher than it is in the flue, the combustion gases comes down the chimney instead of going up. They get inside the building. This can lead to CO poisoning.
